Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Five world-class investors are to participate in a tender for the construction of 700-km undersea electrical cable transmission linking South Sumatra to West Java at a cost of Rp20 trillion, state electricity firm PLN said.

The five investors are Siemens (Germany), Hitachi (Japan), Toshiba (Japan), a consortium of ABB (Switzerland) and Marubeni (Japan), and a consortium of Alstom (France) and PT Wijaya Karya (Indonesia), PLN construction director Nasri Sebayang said here on Thursday.

The five investors have passed a prequalification test and are ready to bid for  the construnction of the cable transmission with an extra high voltage capacity of 500 kV, he said.

"We are currently preparing tender documents," he said.

He said a winner of the tender is required to secure approval from the government and loan provider, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), he said. (*/DWA)
