"In 2012 KPK received 1,158 reports of grafts at public services," deputy chief commissioner Adnan Pandu Praja said in a press conference here on Tuesday adding that a higher number reflects better integrity.
Adnan said the number in 2012 was down from that of 2011 recorded at 1,373.
According to the explanation of Article 12B of Law Number 20 of 2001 on corruption crimes giving money, goods, discount service, commissions, a loan with no interest, travel tickets, hotel or tour service, free medical treatment or other facilities to civil servants and state officials could be categorized as grafts.
Those proven receiving a graft meanwhile could face life imprisonment or minimally four years and maximally 20 years in jail and a fine of minimally Rp200 million and maximally Rp1 billion.
Adnan said "awareness of the sentences is indeed still low as they are not severe enough yet".
He said the 1,158 reports affect structural officials at state-owned companies (BUMN) and regional government-owned companies (BUMD) totaling 894, regional governments 75, ministries 74, extra-structural institutions 44, independent institutions 23, the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR)/the House of Representatives 18, non-ministry state institutions 10, ministerial-level offices 9, coordinating ministers' offices 4, regional legislative assemblies 3, judicial institutions 3 and the regional representative council 1.
