Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali began to suffer deficit of US$5.6 million in trade with China in the first seven months of the year.
Bank Indonesia's economist Sunarto said in a report , Bali's exports to China and Hong Kong were valued at US$20.7 million as against imports of US$26.3 million in the same period.
The basic materials of Bali's major export commodities like fabrics and garments, are imported from China, Sunarto said here on Friday.
Bali also imports textile and garment making machines from China in addition to other non oil/gas commodities, he said. Bali even imports clothes in various types with cheap prices from China, he said.
Other Bali's export commodities include handicraft to China including Hong Kong, he added. He said Bali still has potential capacity to increase exports of non-oil/gas commodities to China such as handicraft products.
Indonesia's foreign trade has expanded rapidly with China, one of the world's largest trading countries. Fast growing China will need largest supply of goods including from Bali , he said.(*/T007)
