Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted each of the APEC leaders as they entered the APEC summit.
The APEC leaders include Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, Vietnamese President Troung Tan Sang, head of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Leung Chun Ying, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Chinese President Hu Jintao, and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Also attending were New Zealand Prime Minister John Philip Key, Papua New Guinean Prime Minister Peter O'Neill, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso, South Korean President Lee Myung Bak, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Philippine President Benigno Aquino III, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda.
US President Barack Obama skipped the summit as he is preparing for the upcoming presidential election. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton represented him at the meeting.
Chief of the Taiwanese National Policy Foundation, Lien Chan, represented Taiwan.
The APEC summit will kick off on Saturday at 2.30 p.m. and end at 4.45 p.m. The APEC leaders will then attend a dialog with the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).(*/T007)
