The currency fell in value against the US dollar in inter-bank trade to the level of 9,475 per dollar from 9,470 earlier.
"The currency weakened slightly in reaction to the second quarter's deficit in the balance of payments," Samuel Sekuritas analyst Lana Soelistianingsih said.
Lana said after announcing the deficit on Friday, Bank Indonesia raised the one week overnight rate given to commercial banks to 4 percent from 3.75 percent narrowing the difference from the central bank key rate to 175 basis points from 200 basis points.
Meanwhile, the country's foreign exchange reserves rose slightly from US$106.502 billion in June to US$106.559 billion in July enough to finance imports for 5.6 months.(IGT)
