Magelang (Antara Bali) - The renowned Buddhist temple of Borobudur in Magelang, Central Java, is greater than the Pyramid in Egypt, visiting Czech President Vaclac Klaus said here on Sunday.
"Borobudur temple is greater than Pyramid because its architecture is more complicated," Klaus was quoted by Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Malarangeng as saying.
In the company of Andi Malarangeng, President Vaclac Klaus and First Lady Klausova visited Borobudur and Prambanan temples before having a state visit to his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta on Monday.
Andi said Klaus really admired the Borobudur temple which was built about 1,000 years ago when there was no heavy equipment like what people use in construction work today.
Before visiting Borobudur, the Czech president and the first lady also visited Prambanan temple in Sleman district in the company of Andi Malarangeng and Sleman district head Sri Purnomo.
Sleman Ancient Heritage Preservation House spokesman Muriyanto said the Czech president was really satisfied with his visit to Prambanan temple, and loved every moment of it to stay longer.
According to him, the Czech president spent more than 30 minutes to see every corner of the temple and admired it so much.
Muriyanto said that because of Klaus' visit to the Prambanan temple, the area was closed for public for more than four hours.
"The temple area was closed for public from 7 am to 11 am because the the Czech president would visit the area," Muriyanto said, adding that Klaus also took his time to visit a number of historical sites including Borobudur temple, and Yogyakarta Palace.(*/M038/T007)
