"As of now, there are 1.6 million victims of natural disasters, while those of social conflicts have reached 258,056," said Andi Zainal Dulung, the Director General of protection and social security for the Ministry of Social Affairs, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Dulung stated it was a common assumption that the Ministry of Social Affairs was responsible only for handling natural and social disasters.
However, he added, the ministry was also responsible for improving the social livelihood of people in 50 regencies and 39 border regions.
"The Ministry of Social Affairs is planning for a prosperous Indonesia, with adequate food, clothing and security for all its populace, by 2025" Dulung said.(IGT)
