The local unit traded at Rp9,335 per dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market on Wednesday morning against the previous day's close of Rp9,333 per dollar.
Market analyst Lana Soelistianingsih of Samuel Sekuritas said the increase in the US existing home sales suggested that the US economy showed a strengthening trend.
Yet the improving US economy remained fragile as concerns were growing over the European Union economy particularly whether or not Greece would leave the euro zone, she said.
"Because of the concerns the US dollar is strengthening against risky currencies including the rupiah," she said.(IGT)
