US Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Ted Osius and Director General of Sea Transportation (DGST) Leon Muhamad marked the handover of 74 personal radiation detectors and four radioisotope identification devises that will aid in detection and deterrence of illicit radiological and nuclear materials.
In addition, DCM Osius highlighted on-going U.S. sponsored training to enhance port security in Northeast Kalimantan and North Sulawesi.
In his remarks DCM Osius said, "This assistance will support Indonesian efforts to manage the significant issues of transnational crime including smuggling activities, trafficking in people, counter narcotics and potential terrorist transit. Port security augmentation paves the way for increased international and regional trade bringing economic benefits to the people of Indonesia."
DCM Osius noted the importance of security cooperation as another component in the U.S-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership inaugurated by Presidents Obama and Yudhoyono.(IGT)
