In preparation of those centers, 50 to 100 experts in rattan processing or rattan goods making would come to Central Kalimantan to train local people in turning raw rattan into exportable finished goods, Central Kalimantan Vice Governor H Achmad Diran said here Saturday,
With the existence of the rattan industry centers, East Kalimantan which was the biggest rattan producing region in Indonesia could benefit optimally from the natural resource.
The sales price of raw rattan would also rise thus making rattan cultivation in the province more attractive to investors, he said.
To observe the preparations to open the rattan industry centers Industry Minister MS Hidayat was expected to visit Central Kalimantan in the near future.
Achmad said the decision to set up rattan industry centers in Central Kalimantan was taken in conjunction with the government's policy to stop the export of raw rattan and semi-finished rattan goods as of January 1, 2012.(IGT)
