Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ignasius Jonan has asked the regional government to help preserve the Batur Geopark which has been recognized by UNESCO.

"I ask the regional government and local people to preserve the Batur Geopark," the minister said when conducting a working visit in the Batu Geopark area in Panolakan Kintamani, Bali, on Sunday.

The minister hoped the local government to play its important role in protecting the Geopark from being damaged as a result of quarry C mining in the area.

He said that the regional government has the right to ban the quarry C mining activities in the region.

"It would threaten the existence of the Batur Geopark if the quarry C mining is let to continue taking place," minister Jonan said.

In the meantime, Bangli District Head Made Gianyar said the mining activities in the area have been stopped.

"There are no longer quarry C mining activities there," the district head said.

He said he has the commitment to develop the tourism sector in the district, one of which is the Batur Geopark. "We have conducted a feasibility study and set a budget for it," he added. (WDY)
