Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Cooperation among ASEAN member states is needed to prevent cyber attacks which may disrupt stability in the region, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Wiranto, said.
"As a region which is part of the global community, ASEAN must prepare itself to counter and prevent cyber attacks. We do not want to see them destroying our development and economic progress," he stated in a press statement released on Monday.
Addressing the Singapore International Cyber Week event on Monday, the minister also underlined several important issues, including cooperation among ASEAN member states which, he pointed out, will ensure the success of ASEAN member states to address the menace of cyber attacks.
During his working visit to Singapore, Wiranto also underscored the importance of developing and prioritizing principles and norms prevailing in the cyber space.
"Since early 2016, Indonesia has taken active part in creating cyber norms, along with 20 countries under the UN Government Group Expert," he added.
He also stressed the importance of relevant stakeholders¿ involvement in managing cyber security issues.
"Cyber attacks threaten not only government infrastructures but corporate infrastructures as well. We must stress that combating cyber crimes is a common responsibility globally," he noted.
He further underscored the importance of cyber security to complement the law enforcement officers' capacity.
"We can cooperate in strengthening law enforcement through capacity building in conducting joint investigation and digital forensic efforts involving ASEAN law enforcement agencies," he stressed.
He went on to say that ASEAN has formulated a master plan to promote the development of information and communication technology (ICT) in each ASEAN member state.
Indonesia will always support any effort to turn ASEAN into a global hub for ICT, he assured.
While in Singapore, the chief security minister also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and met with Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean. (WDY)
