Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said on
Sunday Indonesia is ready to play its role in helping create peace in
Palestine.
"Indonesia is ready to play its role in supporting this peace process," Jokowi said at a bilateral meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Sunday evening.
By holding the fifth Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Jakarta on March 6-7, all member states can be more united to uphold Palestinian independence, he said.
The Indonesian president expressed the hope that the Summit would encourage OIC member states to support the interests of Palestine as well as ASEAN in all fields.
"I hope that Islamic countries would give more support to the Palestine-Israel peace process," he said.
The president said earlier that Indonesia always supports the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state.
One of the supports is the opening of an Indonesian honorary consulate office in Ramallah city, Palestine, in March 2016, he said.
The fifth Extraordinary OIC Summit is also a concrete manifestation of OIC member states efforts to encourage the settlement of conflicts in Palestine.
Both Egypt and Palestine have asked Indonesia to host the Summit which will discuss Palestinian sovereignty and the establishment of Al Quds Al Syarif. (WDY)
