Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Palestinian Ambassador Fariz Mehdawi said his government hopes that the Jakarta extraordinary summit meeting next month of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) would produce something concrete to settle the Palestinian conflict including over Jerusalem (Al Quds Al Sharif).
"The Indonesian government has shown leadership in calling for international efforts to seek solution to Palestinian and Jerusalem conflicts. We are looking forward to implementation of the meeting of the leaders of Muslim countries,"Fariz Mehdawi said here on Friday.
Indonesia will host the extraordinary summit meeting of the OIC to be held in Jakarta March 6-7 .
Mehdawi said the summit meeting is "very" important to remind Russia and the United States , the United Nations and the European Union of the situation in Jerusalem.
The four world powers that take part in the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations need to be reminded that the situation in Jerusalem is serious, he said.
Therefore, the OIC leaders are expected to be able to take concrete steps to cope with Palestinian and Jerusalem conflicts, he added.
OIC should be able to determine steps to put pressure on Israel into doing its obligation to seriously committing itself to peaceful solution to the conflict based on the U.N. resolution and International Law, he said.
The U.N. resolution rules two states solution, - one of which is about the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestine.
The OIC leaders also are expected to take concrete steps to determine borders between Israel and Palestine, the ambassador said.
Palestine demands its sovereignty over the West Bank, Gaza strip and East Jerusalem as its capital.
He said a concrete step is also needed for the return of Palestinian refugees after the illegal occupation by Israel of their lands.
The summit meeting is expected to be attended by heads of state or government of 57 member countries of OIC , formerly Organization of Islamic Conference.
Also expected to attend the meeting are observers from the United States, Russia, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Central African Republic. (WDY)
