Jakarta (Antara Bali)- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has forecast that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) would face heavier challenges in future as corruption cases would increase in number and complexity.

"But, the KPK will also have to meet high public expectations with regard to its performance," Jokowi remarked while inaugurating a new KPK building to coincide with the 12th anniversary of the anti-graft body, here, Tuesday.

He, however, expressed optimism that every challenge would be dealt with by strengthening the institutional capacity and the competency of human resources.

At the same time, the supporting facilities and infrastructure must also be improved.

"I understand that since the establishment of the KPK, its facilities, particularly the building, provided by the state, are not representative of its image," the president noted.

He hoped the new building and its facilities would help strengthen the performance of the commission.

Indonesia's third president B.J. Habibie, sixth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and the ninth vice president Hamzah Haz were also present during the inauguration ceremony.

Former leaders and commissioners of the KPK also attended the event. (WDY)
