Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (Antara Bali) - The Wakatobi district government in Southeast Sulawesi province will organize a sailboat mast climbing competition to enliven the Wakatobi Wonderful Festival and Expo (Wakatobi Wave) on November 22-28, 2015.
"A palm tree climbing competition is something natural, but a sailboat mast climbing competition at sea is unusual but interesting, and we want to do it for the first time to enliven Wakatobi Wave," Wakatobi District Head Hugua affirmed here on Thursday.
He revealed that the organizing committee is offering several prizes, such as motorcycles, refrigerators, and fishing boat machines to the winners of the competition.
According to Hugua, Wakatobi Wave will be the greatest festival to be held as compared to previous similar events in Wakatobi and even Indonesia as it will be attended by more than 10 thousand people from different regions of the country.
"We will hold this festival in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism in a bid to attract as many domestic and foreign tourists as possible to visit Wakatobi," Hugua emphasized.
He expressed hope that the event would help both the Indonesian and international community to gain an insight into the variety of cultures and marine natural beauty that Wakatobi has to offer to make it the primary choice of tourists for sightseeing and vacation.
"We have set a target to achieve 45 thousand tourist arrivals per year to Wakatobi and are highly optimistic of realizing it within the next two or three years," Hugua remarked. (WDY)
