Kendari, SE Sulawesi (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's Minister of Transportation, Ignatius Jonan, will soon issue a permit for a flight between Wakatobi (Southeast Sulawesi) and Denpasar (Bali).
This was announced by the head of the administration of Wakatobi, Hugua, here on Tuesday.
According to Hugua, the Wakatobi district administration and the national flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia, which had proposed the flight, had applied for a license for it earlier this year.
"If the Wakatobi-Denpasar flight route is opened, the flow of goods and services from and to Wakatobi will be carried out more efficiently," he said.
At the same time, he said, many foreign tourists will be able to visit Wakatobi, which has been designated as a special economic zone for tourism.
"More tourists will lead to better economic growth of Wakatobi," Hugua said.
Wakatobi has a national marine park, which is one of 50 national parks in Indonesia and the third largest in the country.
Wakatobi was designated as part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves by the Man and the Biosphere Program of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on 11 July, 2012.
The world's major ecosystems and landscapes represented in this Network are devoted to conserving biological diversity, promoting research and monitoring, as well as providing models of sustainable development in the service of humankind. (WDY)
