Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Egyptian government has assured Indonesia about the safety of Indonesian citizens working or studying in the country.

"The President (Joko Widodo) had asked for a security guarantee for Indonesian citizens and we have assured him that we would take care of them and secure all citizens in Egypt," Egyptian President, Abdel Fatta Al-Sisi, said at a press conference after meeting with President Joko Widodo at the State Palace on Friday evening.

According to President Joko Widodo, there are 3,000 Indonesian students studying in Egypt and 1,200 others working in the country.

During a bilateral meeting, delegations from the two countries discussed cooperation in the economic, as well as other fields.

"We agreed to increase investment cooperation and Indonesia has asked Egypt to facilitate Indonesian investors," President Widodo said.

He added that Egypt had agreed that there are big opportunities for the two countries to cooperate in the economic sector.

President Al-Sisi said economic cooperation between the two countries would continue to increase in the future.

The two leaders also witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding on diplomatic training and a visa-free facility.

President Widodo was accompanied by Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi, Chief Economic Minister, Darmin Nasution, Religious Affairs Minister, Lukman Hakim Syaifuddin, and Minister/State Secretary, Pratikno. (WDY)
