Borobudur, C Java (Antara Bali) - The sunrise seen from the hilly areas of the Borobudur Buddhist temple in Magelang, Central Java Province, increasingly attracted domestic and foreign tourists, manager of tourist sites Mura Aristina said here Tuesday.

"Even during the fasting month of Ramadan the number of tourists to watch the exquisite sunrise from Purwosari Hill, named the Purwosari Sunrise, increased," Aristina added.

The Purwosari Hill with a height of about 400 meters above the sea level, is located approximately three kilometers southwest of Borobudur.

On this hill, the visitors can enjoy the beauty of the sunrise which appears between Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu with a background of  the Borobudur temple.

"We get tourist signs and Borobudur Temple map from UNESCO so that the visitors and travel guides can direct their guests to the Purwosari Sunrise destination," Aristina said.

Foreign visitors come from Europe, Latin America, and Australia, she added.

She said usually the visitors were on top of the hill for about 1.5 hours.

They come at around 04.30 pm and walk through the trail steps to the top of the hill. The locals have set up two convenient rest areas along the footpath.

After seeing the sunrise, visitors can continue their travel  to a number of other objects, such as houses of prayer called Bukit Rima, which is a sitting dove-shaped giant building, or visiting the Javanese sugar makers.

Aristina is optimistic that the Purwosari Sunrise will be increasingly in demand by the domestic and foreign tourists, especially during the holiday season. (WDY)
