Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Minister for Administrative Reform Yuddy Chrisnandi has decided to allow government offices to hold meetings in hotels, but on certain conditions.

"In general, meetings must be held with efficiency. They must not be extravagant. So, only if an office hall is not spacious enough to accommodate many participants or if it is an inter-sectoral meeting shall it be convened outside a government building," he said after conducting a Friday prayer along with Vice-President Jusuf Kalla here.

The decision has been included in Ministerial Decree Number 06/2015 on reference for limiting meetings outside the office in the framework of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of state apparatus.

Yuddy stressed one of the earlier clauses that government officials are not allowed to hold meetings at hotels unless in urgent situations has been retained in the new regulation.

"So, it does not mean that government offices may organize meetings in hotels. They may do so only if the government building is not wide enough to accommodate participants or in case of an inter-sectoral meeting," he explained.

He remarked he will issue the regulation in detail so that "state apparatus will have no doubt with regard to when they may hold a meeting outside their offices and regional governments will be more creative in organizing events so that they can involve third parties for efficiency."

The minister issued the new regulation after the Association of Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI) complained of their declining turnover due to the government's ban on meetings in hotels.

"We have agreed with the PHRI by allowing meetings outside government offices on certain conditions. We will act against government offices and PHRI members in case of any violation of the clauses," he emphasized. (WDY)
