Denpasar (Antara) - Indonesia is hosting the Asian Pacific Digestive Week (APDW) Congress 2014 at Nusa Dua in Bali from November 22 to 25, Secretary General of APDW Congress dr Dadang Makmun said.

"This time the congress is the result of cooperation among the Gastroenterology Association of Indonesia (PGI), the Indonesian Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Society (PEGI), the Indonesian Association for the Study of the Liver (PPHI), and the Indonesian Digestive Surgeons Association (IKABDI)," he said here on Sunday.

The annual scientific conference is organized by four non-profit medical organizations, namely the Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE), the Asian Pacific Society of Digestive Endoscopy (APSDE), the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), and the International Society for Digestive Surgery-Asian Pacific Section (ISDS), he said.

"The event is a forum to exchange knowledge among experts in gastroenterology, hepatology, digestive endoscopy, and digestive surgery to improve their knowledge and skills," he said.

Dadang said the congress is themed "Harmony of Advanced Medical Sciences, Technology, and Best Practices in Gastroenterology and Hepatology".

The theme is very important now that digestive disease is one of the leading causes of death in the world, he said.

Therefore, the congress this time is featuring many resource persons who come up with the results of latest researches, he said. (WDY)
