Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali earned US$3.12 million from the exports of rattan craft products in the first five months of 2014 or a 618.8 percent increase from the same period last year.

Head of the provincial office of the Central Bureau of Statistics Panasunan Siregar said here on Thursday that rattan craft products were exported mainly yo Japan,  the United States  and Europe.

In the January-May period in 2013, Bali's exports of rattan craft products were valued at US$434,735, data at the provincial industry and trade office showed.  

The export volume of rattan craft products from Bali surged 118.63 percent to 88,353 units from 40,412 units in the same period.

Rattan craft products contribute 1.45 percent to the total export value of Bali  that reached US$215.04 million in the five month period.

      
Bali has no forests or plantation to produce raw rattan. Raw rattan, therefore, is supplied from other regions mainly Sulawesi, Kalimantan  and Papua. (WDY)
