Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The Bali Police (Polda Bali) has provided metal detectors and X-ray machines in the Gilimanuk Port, Jembrana District, ahead of the surge in the number of 2014 Lebaran holiday travelers.

But, Bali Police (Kapolda) Chief Inspector General Albertus Julius Benny Mokalu on Monday (July 21) stated that the high-tech equipment will be operated in accordance with the needs of the people.

"The machine cannot be operated all day long. If there is intelligence information, we will operate the machines," he emphasize

The advanced equipment will be used selectively and on priority basis when required as per intelligence inputs.

The X-ray equipment will be used every day, but it emits high radiation. "Because of the high radiation, the personnel should use a coat," noted the former chief of Bengkulu Police.

Benny Mokalu pointed out that the X-ray equipment will be operated if Bali holds a number of international events. The machine is used to prevent the entry of dangerous goods or terrorists who want to destabilize the situation in Bali.

Earlier, the Balinese Government had provided two X-ray machines to the Bali Police for use at the entrances of the island such as the Gilimanuk and Padangbai Port.

Several parties have criticized the officials because the advanced machines did not operate optimally. (*/M038)
