Indonesia will partner with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to host the inaugural Ocean Impact Summit in Bali on June 8-9, 2026, aiming to strengthen its global leadership in the blue economy.

Desri Yanti, head of multilateral cooperation at Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, said collaboration with WEF would enhance the summit’s global credibility and reinforce Indonesia’s position in the ocean economy.

"Our goal is to make Indonesia a global ocean economy hub, not only in Southeast Asia, given our position as the world’s largest archipelagic nation," Desri said at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Senior Adviser to the Minister for Ecology and Marine Resources at Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Hendra Yusran Siry, said the event is also supported by OceanX, a global nonprofit focused on sustainable ocean technology and innovation.

He said the cooperation is expected to generate innovations aligned with blue economy principles, supporting economic growth, strengthening food security, and preserving marine ecosystems.

WEF support for the Bali summit was formalized through the signing of a letter of intent between Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and senior WEF officials on the sidelines of the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos, witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto.
