Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Jakarta Metro Jaya Police Command has set up a special team to fight motorist gang members following some incidents troubling the society recently.

"We have established a special team to take firm action against motorist gang members who have caused security problems for the society," Deputy Director of Traffic Management of the police command, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Sambodo, said here, Friday.

According to Sambodo, the command's chief, Inspector General Putut Eko Bayuseno, had ordered his men to crack down on every motor gang member involved in illegal street racing or crimes.

So far, the police have only ticketed those involved in illegal street racing. "Now, we would confiscate their motor bikes and send the violating members to court if we have to,"Sambodo said.

The police have identified roads that are often used for illegal street racing in the city. (*/M038)
