Banda Aceh (Antara Bali) - Around 80 stranded Rohingya people were rescued at Pulo Aceh in Aceh Besar district, Aceh Province, on Sunday evening, police said here on Monday.
Aceh Besar district police spokesman Inspector Zulkifli Daud said the Rohignya people from Myanmar were found stranded at Pulo Aceh at 5 pm on Sunday before they had been rescued by local fishermen.
Zulkifli said that among 80 stranded Rohingya people, five were children.
According to him, the Rohingya people admitted that they were sailing on a speed boat to Australia but they went stranded at Pulo Aceh and then finally rescued by the local fishermen.
Tgk Samad, one of the fishermen, said they were found in a very weak condition because they had nothing to eat at sea for several days. (*/DWA)
