Badung (Antara Bali) - Anak Agung Gde Agung, the regent of Badung, denied allegation that conversion of farm lands in the district has increased in the past seven years.
"In the 2006-2012 period change in farm land functions averaged 17.57 hectares per year, much smaller than 101.33 hectares in the period of 2003-2005 period," Gde Agung said here, Friday.
He said the data he presented were official figures as a result of a census by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS).
According to him, farm lands in Badung even increased 197 hectares through optimization of potential lands and water resources.
"In the past seven years, rice fields alone have expanded 86 hectares to 10,195 hectares from from, 10,109 hectares in 2006," he said.
He said rice production in Badung averaged 121,97 tons a year in the past seven years with productivity of 6.15 tons per hectare, up from 115,978 tons a year with productivity of 5.76 tons per hectare in 2003-2005. (IGT/T007)
