Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Emergency flights are still permitted at that time when Ngurah Rai international airport in  Bali is not operational for 24 hours on the occasion of the Balinese New Year on Tuesday, March 16, 2010.

"Overflying, technical landings and emergency landings including medical evacuation are still permitted,"  Head of the Bali Transportation, Information and Communications Agency I Made Santha said here Monday.

He said in a technical landing, the crew and passengers need to stay in Ngurah Rai airport's work area for as long as the Hindus are engaged in their celebration.

International flights with their destinations and first departure from Ngurah Rai had been abolished for 24 hours as of Tuesday (March 16) at 4 am to 4 am the following day.   

Made Santha said also domestic flights with destination and first departure from Ngurah Rai had been abolished.

However, trans flights are still permitted, but without passengers with Denpasar at final destination or departure form there.

Such transit flights are permitted only to carry passengers in transfer. Ngurah Rai airport, seaports and all means of transportation would not be oprating during those hours in observance of the Balinese New Year.(*)
