Tomohon, N Sulawesi (Antara Bali) - Mount Lokon of Tomohon District, North Sulawesi, erupted twice on Thursday Morning.

Head of Mount Lokon and Mahawu Observation Post Farid Ruskanda Bina said the first eruption occurred at 06.54 am of local time, while the second one was at 10.44 am, followed with an explosion that could be heard clearly from villages around the crater.

"We can not observe the elevation of the smoke and dust spewed (on the second explosion) as the mount was covered with fog. However, the first explosion spewed dust eight hundred meters high," Farid Ruskanda Bina said here, Thursday.

The observer of Volcanology and Geology Disaster Mitigation of Bandung Geology Agency said the two eruption occurred after escalating volcanic tremor or seismic activities on Wednesday (Jan 30) at 10.54 pm. However, Mount Lokon is still on Alert Status III, he said. (*/DWA/T007)
