Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian government has been assisting Palestine in its efforts to develop as a nation state, after the United Nations (UN) granted Palestine the upgraded status of a non-member observer state.
"As a full member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) since 1969, Palestine has our full support in building itself up as a nation state," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry's director general for multilateral affairs, Hasan Kleib, told the press after the 4th Ministerial Conference on the Role of Women in the Development of OIC Member States, held at Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Jakarta on Thursday.
"Indonesia, through many programs, has also helped Palestine strengthen its national structure and develop a better understanding of gender equality since 2008," he said.
"More than 1,000 Palestinians are now participating in such programs," Kleib pointed out.
He said Indonesia was expected to continue assisting Palestine not only in its capacity-building efforts, but also in realizing the vision of a two-state solution.
The Palestine envoy also held bilateral meetings with some OIC member states on the sidelines of the conference. (*/DWA/T007)
