Negara (Antara Bali) - According to the Maritime, Fishery and Forestry Department of Jembrana, the supply of freshwater fish in Bali has reached eight tonnes per day.
"Therefore, we are targeting to create 1,000 freshwater fish ponds in two to three years," said the Head of Maritime, Fishery, and Forestry Department of Jembrana, Dwi Maharimbawa.
He said that some of the restaurant entrepreneurs are keen on cultivating freshwater fish such as catfish, carp and tilapia but are afraid of investing in this venture because of the uncertainty of fish production.
According to Maharimbawa, freshwater fish cultivation is uncertain because it is not properly organised in terms of maintenance and marketing.
"The residents do not jump into freshwater fish cultivation without proper research on the technical maintenance and the market share. In addition, the capital and income are not balanced, resulting in losses," he said.(IGT)
