Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he would consult other state institutions concerned with regard to the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) question over the settlement of the 1965-66 problem.
"The state certainly has moral and political mission to settle what has happened in the country if it relates to human rights violations," he said in a press conference after a coordination meeting on law enforcement here on Wednesday.
He said consultations were needed so that wider, factual, just and constructive perspectives could be obtained for the settlement of the problem.
The President said in a number of countries the process of settlement is different depending on conditions and solutions acceptable to all parties.
"I have learned from other countries such as from the Netherlands, Cambodia and Bosnia that models of settlement vary, but solutions do exist acceptable to all parties. We must be objective to see what happened in the past. There are many ways to choose, such as through a justice system, truth system, justice and truth system or reconciliation," he said.
He said what the Komnas HAM had submitted would be studied. "If it is about the past I would consult other state institutions concerned first so that we could find a fair, factual, wise and constructive solution. And as it was just submitted to the Attorney General's Office a few days ago I hope it would be discussed first and the result may be reported to me later," he said.(*/T007)
