Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The government is optimistic that the Latin American countries will increase their investments in Indonesia, Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Chief Chatib Basri said here on Monday.

"Total investment value of the Latin America and Caribbean regions in ASEAN is less than US$5 million but we are optimistic that this will improve," Chatib explained during the ASEAN - Latin American Business Forum.

He noted that through this business forum, there would be quarantine cooperation according to which the export of Indonesian goods would no longer be rejected because they do not meet the required standards of the target countries.

Themed "Toward a Sustainable Future", the ASEAN - Latin American Business Forum scheduled between 9th and 10th July, 2012, was launched by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

In his opening address, President Yudhoyono said that the investments among ASEAN and Latin American countries need to improve.(IGT)
