Merak, Banten (Antara Bali) - The Merak-Bakuaheni ferry service in the quay of Merak port in Banten province had been delayed due to bad weather in Sunda strait.

"We cannot recommend shipment to Bakauheni port, Lampung, after a suggestion from the port administrator as the waves in Sunda strait has reached 2.5 to 3 meters high," executive manager of the Indonesian river, lake and ferry, Merak office, Didi Yuliansyah said in Rangkasbitung on Monday.

He said now the Merak-Bakauheni ferry service has been restored at 10 pm.

But he said the skipper of the roll on roll of (roro) boats needs to be watchful in the bad weather.

There was a report that a motorcycle fell in the holds of SMS Kartanegara when traveling Merak due to the high waves and strong winds.

He said the number of passengers had been increasing since the afternoon from Merak port to Bakauheni and the other way around.

The increase in the number of passengers may be the result that Tuesday the people should have returned to work following the Imlek (Chinese New Year) holidays.(T007)
