Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Global robotics leader Sphero announced on Sunday it has signed a distribution agreement with Halo Robotics to distribute Sphero's full range of robotic gaming systems in Indonesia, Southeast Asia's largest economy.
Sphero is the creator of intuitive smartphone-controlled robots whose enormous popularity has defined a new product category, "connected play."
Sphero's most recent product, the BB-8(TM) app-enabled Droid(TM), builds on the same technical innovations as Sphero's full product line; engaging robotic toys that roll and jump in response to voice and app controls, and that constantly improve with regular software updates.
"This is an exciting time for Sphero, and we are excited to celebrate the launch of our long-term connection with Indonesia," says Aurelien Joly, Sphero's APAC Channel Director in a release on Sunday.
"Indonesia is known throughout the world for its enthusiasm with new technology, and as the largest economy in Southeast Asia it represents an enormous sustained growth opportunity for our brand."
Sphero was founded in 2010 with vision to create connected, entertaining and responsive robotic toys.
The flagship product, Sphero, paved the way for the company to create the best experience in connected toys -- fusing the latest technology in robotics with the most creative and engaging games.
Sphero continues to roll out new products and apps, including:
- Ollie -- a rebellious, cylindrical robot that rolls at speeds of up to 15 mph.
- SPRK -- a clear shelled Sphero, that when coupled with the Lightning Lab app, teaches foundational programming through STEM activities.
- Accessories -- covers, ramps, chariots and more.
"The connected play toy market has grown dramatically over the last several years and Sphero is certainly the global leader," said a statement by Indonesia-based Halo Robotics.
"Sphero products are perfectly suited to Indonesia, as they appeal to a full range of consumer audiences. They are enjoyable by both kids and beginners, and continue evolving with software updates coming from a company that really cares about its customers."
Nearly half of Indonesia's population of 249.9 million are under the age of 30, with among the world's fastest-growing consumer demographics for Sphero products.
Famously tech-savvy, over 100 million Indonesians will be smartphone users by 2017, laying a strong foundation for app-controlled robots.
Launching together with Metro, a household brand and retail leader, Sphero's market entry signals a transformation in Indonesian consumer access to advanced robotics through connected toys.
"Sphero is pleased to add Halo Robotics to its exclusive family of distribution partners. In selecting our partners we seek highly strategic alliances that will not only broaden our market exposure, but elevate our brand in the various categories we serve," said Joly.
"This partnership allows us to expand our reach in Indonesia's vital market and help us continue our tremendous sales expansion."
Sphero products will be available in established Indonesian retailers starting from May 4, 2016. (WDY)
