Denpasar (Antaranews Bali) - At least 146 contestants from 10 countries will take part in an international choir competition in Bali to be held from 24 to 28 July this year.

The participants of the Choir Festival will include the Children to grown up categories.

The festival would indirectly help promote the different cultures of the participating countries, the organizers said.

"Through the forum the participants would know the cultures of each other countries. They would promote their respective cultures," President Director of the Bandung Choral Society Tommyanto Kandisaputra said as the organizing committee here on Thursday.

Kandisaputra said until Wednesday on July 11 there were 10 countries registering participation including Canada, China, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Venezuela, and the host Indonesia.

Indonesia will be represented by selected participants from 26 provinces of the countries, he said.

He said there would be 16 categories of the groups of contestants to compete in the 7th "Bali International Choir Festival" (BICF) including "show choir", pop and jazz, youth, acapela, children , women and men categories.

There are also senior, gospel and spiritual, folklore, vocal groups and "musica sacra" categories, he said.

The organizing committee also invited 16 world coir experts to be the jury in the competition. The members of the jury include from the "American Choral Directors Association" and Indonesian musicians like Catharina Leimena, Avip Priatna, Daud Kosasih and Andreas Sugeng.

Kandisaputra said BICF is expected to accommodate development of growing choirs in Indonesia that need new challenges.

He said he was confident the participants would gain much from the international competition.

The opening of the festival would be preceded with presentation of five choirs for charity at Holy Spirit Cathedral. The fund raised from the charity show would be donated to education of children of poor families. (WDY)
