Denpasar (Antara Bali) - A young woman was caught red-handed trying to smuggle two packages of marijuana into a Denpasar penitentiary on Friday, a prison spokesman said.
"The (marijuana smuggling attempt) happened at about 11.00 hours local time when officers conducted a search on each visitor at the prison entrance," Yudho Sutijono, prison security chief said here on Friday.
The female smuggler identified by her initials as MS (34) was born in Lumajang, East Java province.
According to Yudho Sutijono, the woman was caught red-handed when she wanted to visit a French male prisoner identified as Gracia Jean Marc Patrice.
"She admitted she had come to the prison to see Jean Marc to deliver the marijuana to him at the request of another foreigner," Yudho Sutijono said.
In an effort to deceive the prison officers, the woman had hidden the two packages of marijuana in her bra and other underwear. But prison security officers foiled the woman's action after frisking her, he said.
"At first, I was only in charge of searching every visitor who entered the prison," Kriswidyani, the female officer who examined the woman.
"I became suspicious, because she kept pulling at her bra. When I asked what she was doing, she said, 'nothing Madam," Kriswidyani said.
When asked by the prison officer, the woman confessed that she was smuggled the marijuana by order of an unknown person by phone. She said she had picked up the drug under a tree in front of the prison.
The woman also said that she knew the French prisoner since five years ago when she got a job in property company. (*)
