Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Some 1.8 million senior high school students appeared for a national examination (UN) that began on Monday across Indonesia.
"This morning, a total of 1,812,035 students from senior high school (SMA) and Islamic schools (MA) gave the national exam. We hope the UN would be held smoothly and be free of fraud," Nizam, head of the Education Appraisal Center of the Education and Culture Ministry, stated here, Monday.
The 1.8 million students are from 20,557 schools. Of the total, 667,741 students from 10,905 schools are giving a paper and pencil exam, while 1,144,294 students from 9,652 schools are giving a computer-based exam.
"Education must be free of fraud. Integrity in children is developed through education. Schools must become zones that demonstrate integrity," he affirmed.
He expressed relief that reports of fraud this year are much less as compared to those recorded in the previous year.
The subjects of the national exam cover mathematics, Indonesian language, English, and one subject according to the majors opted by the students.
For the scientific major, the subjects are physics, chemistry, and biology, while for the social major, the subjects are geography, sociology, and economics.(WDY)
