Denpasar
(Antara Bali) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) said the number of
narcotics addicts in the Indonesian tourist resort province of Bali
dropped from 66,785 in 2014 to 61,353 in 2015.
"In 2015, the number of drug abusers declined by 5,432," BNN
Chairman for Bali Brig Gen Putu Gede Suastawa said here on Sunday.
He said that the figure was based on the results of a research
conducted by the BNN in cooperation with the University of Indonesia.
Most of the drug addicts or some 30,452 became addicts after only
trying to consume illegal drugs. A total of 17,817 were non-intravenous
users, 12,315 regular consumers and 678 intravenous drug users.
Suastawa said the decline in the drug addicts in Bali was thanks
to intensive campaign on the danger of drugs, decrease in drug supplies
and cooperation among the relevant apparatuses.
The efforts to reduce the prevalence of drug addicts included
eradication, rehabilitation, prevention and empowerment of the people,
he said. (WDY)
