Lhokseumawe, Aceh (Antara Bali)- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the operations of a compressed natural gas-fired power plant (PLTMG), located in the premises of Perta Arun Gas company, here, Thursday.
The head of state was accompanied by First Lady Iriana, State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno, President Director of State Utility Company (PLN) Sofyan Basir, Chief of the Presidential Staff Office Teten Masduki, and Aceh Governor Zaini Abdullah.
Most of Aceh's electricity demand would be met by the newly officiated power plant, General Manager of PT PLN Aceh branch office Bob Saril explained.
"The territorial coverage is from Banda Aceh to North Sumatra," he revealed.
The Arun PLTMG has a capacity to produce 184 megawatts of electricity and is connected to the Northern Sumatra Sub-system.
He hoped the new plant will solve the power crisis in Aceh, Indonesia's westernmost province. (WDY)
