Koba, Bangka Belitung (Antara Bali) - Education and Culture Minister Anies Syarif Baswedan has asked schools not to dismiss any students if they are found involved in criminal offenses.
"The philosophy of education is that every child is entitled to education. Dismissing a student for violating the law is not allowed and is wrong," he said during a dialogue with hundreds of teachers in Bangka Tengah district, Bangka Belitung, on Tuesday.
He advised that the education office must hold a consultation with the concerned school to find some solution and the children must be permitted to continue to attend school.
"The solution can be allowing the student to change school, but such a student must not be dismissed from the school," he instructed.
He opined that parents who found their children committing misdeeds are unlikely to say that they will stop having children.
"Likewise, educational institutions must not discharge the student from the school. However, the school must educate the student further," he argued.
A child who comes to school is different from an employee attending office, he said.
"If the student who comes to school is involved in any wrongdoing, then he must be educated further. But if an employee who comes to the office commits a misdeed, such a person must be subject to sanctions or can be discharged," he stated.(WDY)
