Indonesia Posts Us667.2 Million In Trade Surplus In April

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia was favored with a surplus of US$667.2 million in its international trade in April, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said .

In April , the country's  exports were valued at US$11.45 billion as against imports of US$10.78 billion, a deputy chief of BPS Sasmito Hadi Wibowo said here on Monday.

The surplus rose from US$US$478.3 million in 2015 thanks to trade of commodities other than oil and gas. The country recorded a surplus of US$1.14 billion in trade of commodities other than oil and gas  as against a deficit of US$474.3 million in oil and gas trade.

"Cumulatively, the international trade favored the country with a surplus of US$2.33 billion in the first four month of the year  with exports valued at US$45.05 billion as against imports of US$42.72 billion," Sasmito said.

Trade in commodities other than oil and gas left a surplus of US$3.24 billion but a deficit of US$910.4 million was recorded in the oil and gas trade, he said.

Indonesia, formerly a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has become a net importer of crude oil but is still a major supplier of natural gas.

Indonesia also still recorded surplus in trade with almost all other members of ASEAN. Deficit was only recorded in trade with Thailand. Trade with Thailand left the country with a deficit of US$1.60 billion  in the first four months of the year.

"With Singapore we had a surplus of US$146.2 million in trade in April and US$562.6 million in the first 4 months of the year," Sasmito said

Trade  with the European Union was favored the country with a surplus of US$306.8 million  in April and US$1.02 billion in the January-April period.

Deficit  was recorded in trade with  China  reaching US$1.47 billion in April and  US$5.76 billion in the first four months of the year. (WDY)
