Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - Chairman of Golkar Aburizal Bakrie (ARB) has
reiterated that the party will support the President Joko Widodo
(Jokowi) and Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla (JK) administration after the
extraordinary congress.
"Later, in this extraordinary congress, we will issue a
recommendation on behalf of the leadership to support the Jokowi-JK
administration," ARB, also popularly known as Ical, said here on
Saturday.
Whoever is elected the new chairman of Golkar Party will be bound
by the decisions made during the extraordinary congress, he said.
He also said senior cadres of Golkar would no longer sit on the
executive board of the party, but will be active in institutions so that
they can advise and provide inputs to the younger cadres.
ARB expressed the hope that the new chairman would be elected democratically.
The extraordinary congress of Golkar is being held from May 14 to
16 with its main agenda being election of a new chairman of Golkar to
succeed ARB, who is resigning.
Eight candidates will compete in the election. They are Ade
Komarudin, Setya Novanto, Airlangga Hartarto, Mahyudin, Priyo Budi
Santoso, Aziz Syamsuddin, Indra Bambang Utoyo and Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
