House, Govt Pass 6 Bills Into Law

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The House of Representatives (DPR) and the government have passed six bills into law during the third session the 2015-2016 year, House Speaker Ade Komarudin said.

"The bills comprise four bills on the priority list of the 2016 national legislation program and two bills in open the cumulative list," he said at a House plenary meeting at the parliament building here on Thursday.

One of the four bills deals with home savings. Both the DPR and the government believe that the bill carries a great idea for resolving housing problems, he said.

The passage of the bill into law will help low-income people, who have no house, he said.

"This bill is phenomenal because it provides an effective, revolutionary, and sustainable solution, which may serve as the legal basis for the Indonesian nation to make available low-cost, decent and affordable housing," he said.

The second bill concerns the protection and empowerment of fishermen, fish and salt farmers.

The passage of the bill is aimed at providing facilities and infrastructure needed to develop businesses and impart business certainty.

"It will also protect them against natural disaster, climate change, and pollution and give extend safety guarantee and legal aid," he said,

The third bill is related to the prevention and handling of the financial crisis, formerly known as the financial system safety net.

The passage of the bill into law will lay down the legal basis for a deposit insurance scheme, and mechanism for providing an emergency financing facility from the central bank.

The fourth bill concerns disabled persons. The bill is aimed at fulfilling disabled persons economic, political, social and cultural rights.

The bill is relevant to the mandate of the constitution, which stresses the fulfillment of the right of every resident, including disabled persons. (WDY)
