Gov't Sets Aside One Tln Rupiah For Research Fund

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education has set aside Rp1 trillion (about US$7.5 million) to fund research in higher education.

"The one trillion rupiah fund is intended for 15,171 research projects in the higher education," Minister of Research Technology and Higher Education, Mohammad Nasir said here on Thursday.

The minister underlined that the nation's competitiveness is determined by its human resource ability in excelling science and technology.

A skillful human resource, investment, and research will be the three major components of shaping the nation's competence, the minister said.

National research has achieved a milestone in the national development; it has contributed intangible knowledge, skill and experience for researchers, research institutions and higher education.

It has also provided a number of scientific papers published in some national and international journals, as well as increased the number of intellectual properties in the country.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Research Strengthening and Development of the Ministry, Muhammad Dimyato said there have been 24,588 research proposals received by the ministry this year.

The fund will be granted through a designated 16 schemes, such as international research cooperation and publication, fundamental research, bio-medics, strategic national research and doctoral research. (WDY)
