Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Islamic Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) said it would join factions in the Parliament rejecting move to revise the law on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Chairman of PKS faction in the Parliament Jazuli Juwaini said his faction would reject further debate on the draft amendment now being discussed at the Legislation Body of the Parliament.
"The plenary meeting of the PKS faction on Thursday decided to reject further debate on the draft revision of the KPK law," Jazuli said here on Friday.
The move led by the ruling Indonesian Democrat Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has been widely rejected by the public although it is supported by the majority factions.
The revision is widely suspected as a move to weaken KPK , but PDI-P insisted that the revision is to strengthen the anti graft agency.
KPK leaders also rejected the move saying revision apparently would weaken the agency .
President Joko Widodo has repeated saying he would not agree if the revision would weaken KPK, but he added he has yet to wait for the decision of the Parliament.
Jazuli said PKS agrees if the revision is to strengthen KPK in handling and uncovering big corruption cases.
He also said that KPK sould be involved to give substantial inputs.
Gerindra and Democrat Party already rejected the new draft revision of the KPK law.
The rejection resulted in the delay bringing the draft revision to a plenary session of the Parliament to make it a Parliament initiative until next Thursday.
Originally the plenary session was to take place last Thursday.
The delay would give time for the factions to make a final decision. (WDY)
