Denpasar (Antara Bali) - With the new arrival of six thousand tons of rice,
Bali has a stock totaling 19 thousand tons, which will be adequate to
meet the needs of the local community for up to 10 months.
"As many as six thousand tons of rice has just arrived at the port
of Benoa in Denpasar to add to the existing stock of 13 thousand tons,
and the quantity is sufficient to meet the needs of local communities
for up to 10 months," spokesman of the Regional Division of the State
Logistics Agency (Bulog) Mansur Siri remarked here on Friday.
According to Siri, some of the rice that had just arrived in Bali
was imported from Vietnam and Thailand and was distributed through East
Java.
Further, Siri added that the average rice consumption in Bali
ranged between 2.2 thousand tons and 2.6 thousand tons per month, and
therefore, the total 19 thousand tons would more than suffice the needs
of the local communities and would not result in a spike in the price of
rice.
He stated that the distribution of rice will be accelerated to
avoid price hikes ahead of the Galungan, Kuningan, and Lunar New Year
holidays. (WDY)
