Manado (Antara Bali) - North Sulawesi early this month exported 13.1 million tons worth US$ US$13.2 million of crude coconut oil (CCO) to the Netherlands.
CCO is high in demand in the Netherlands, head of the foreign trade division of the regional trade and industry office T Hasudungan Siregar said here on Saturday.
North Sulawesi has also exported CCO to the United States, Hasudungan said.
"We have to maintain our foothold in the two potential markets. Exports to the two countries have increase from year to year," he said.
He said the government would continue to facilitate exports of the commodity to ensure competitiveness in the international market.
CCO has been the main export earner for North Suilawesi, which is the country's largest producer of coconut oil.
Hasudungan said in the Netherlands, CCO is processed into cooking oil and into bio fuel.
A number of large companies like Cargill, Bimoli, Ivomas Pratama, Agro Makmur Raya and Multi Nabati Sulawesi have CCO processing factories in the province. (WDY)
