Malaysia The Biggest Investor In N Sumatra

Medan, N Sumatra (Antara Bali) - Malaysia was listed as the biggest foreign investor in North Sumatra province in the second quarter of 2015, with a total investment of Rp1.827 trillion, an official said.

"Of the total investment of Rp4.045 trillion in the second quarter of 2015, Rp1.827 trillion came from Malaysia and Rp1.102 trillion from Singapore," Chief of the North Sumatra Provincial Investment and Promotion Board (BNMP), Purnama Dewi, said here on Wednesday.

The Netherlands came in third with a total investment of Rp852.967 billion, Dewi said.

The foreign investment projects are mostly located in Medan city and Deliserdang and Simalungun districts, he said.

Most of the foreign and domestic investment in North Sumatra was concentrated in the chemical industry, transportation, warehousing and communication sectors, he said.

"Admittedly, foreign investment in North Sumatra continues to increase," he said.

By the second quarter of 2015, foreign investment in the province reached Rp7.896 trillion as opposed to Rp6.389 trillion in the same period last year.

Overall, foreign and domestic investment in the province in the year that ended on June 30, 2015 amounted to Rp10.911 trillion.

The second-quarter investment inflows have shored up confidence that the realization of investment this year will exceed the regional government-set target of Rp11 trillion. (WDY)
