Indonesia Exports Green Beans To Philippines

Gresik, E Java (Antara Bali) - Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman has said Indonesia, through CV Hasil Tani Sejahtera, has exported mung beans (green beans) to the Philippines and China.

"We exported 3,000 tons of green beans," he said while seeing off nine containers of mung beans being exported from Gresik, East Java, on Wednesday.

He said Indonesia has exported 60,000 tons of mung beans to various countries.

He said exports to the Philippines were not limited by any quota, so productivity could be increased next year to boost exports.

CV Hasil Tani Sejahtera's president director Sumanto said besides the Philippines and China, other countries including India, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia were also in need of mung beans and could become potential export destinations.

He said exports are expected to reach 4,000 to 5,000 tons by the end of the year.

He said in the past two years, Indonesia has been able to export mung beans, thanks to surplus production.

Sumanto said the Indonesian mung beans were superior as these were thick and were of good quality.

"The quality of the Indonesian green beans is what other countries need. The Myanmar beans are smaller," he said. (WDY)
